Challenging Cases in Diabetic Retinopathy

O diabetes mellitus é uma doença crônica e progressiva, sendo a quarta principal causa de morte por doença e afetando mais de 230 milhões de pessoas em todo o mundo. O dano crônico causado pela diabetes a órgãos-alvo se manifesta no olho como retinopatia diabética, a principal causa de cegueira em adultos em idade produtiva. Atualmente, existem cerca de 93 milhões de pessoas com retinopatia diabética no mundo. Na retinopatia diabética, o dano à microvasculatura da retina resulta em microaneurismas, vasos telangiectáticos e vazamento exsudativo. A isquemia da retina persistente leva ao desenvolvimento de neovascularização da retina, hemorragia vítrea, descolamento retiniano tracional e cegueira.

A sessão Challenging Cases in Diabetic Retinopathy faz parte do programa RetinAlive e tem como objetivo oferecer uma discussão interativa de casos atípicos e recalcitrantes de Retinopatia Diabética por renomados especialistas nacionais e internacionais. A patologia celular e molecular da retinopatia diabética, a sua relação com a inflamação, a análise da imagem multimodal, assim como as estratégias de tratamento com fotocoagulação à laser, agentes anti-VEGF e corticosteroides, bem como a obtenção das melhores estratégias personalizadas, clínicas ou cirúrgicas, serão amplamente debatidas e ilustradas.
